PURPLE DEATH

Tranquil suburban Richmond-on-Thames, home to such landmarks as Hampton Court Palace and Kew Gardens becomes the setting for a series of shocking and particularly gruesome murders that leads Detective Inspector Sean Connor and his team into a labyrinthine investigation in which all roads lead towards a thirty year old unsolved murder. The victims, all apparently unconnected to each other, are being dispatched by the use of a singularly unique poison, previously more closely associated with the notorious medieval Borgia family.

As the murders begin to multiply at an alarming rate Connor finds clues hard to come by, and every lead takes him down yet another blind alley as the killer seems to be one step ahead of the police at every turn. Together, he and his assistant Sergeant Lucy Clay must piece together the shreds of evidence that will lead them to the mysterious "Chocolate Woman" and in turn to the brain behind the horrific murders that soon come to be known as "The Purple Death."

Purple Death will soon be available from Amazon etc but can be ordered now for worldwide dispatch from http://moongypsypress.com/porter.php

PESTILENCE!
Released in e-book format by Double Dragon Publishing on 8th January 2010, with paperback release a couple of weeks later.

About the book.
From award winning author Brian L Porter comes the thriller sensation of the year. ’Pestilence’ leads where others will follow in creating a scare-fest that will terrify, entertain and astound the reader.

Pestilence….breathe if you dare!

The year is 1958, the place, an idyllic village in the heart of the English countryside. Olney St. Mary has stood in its peaceful rural location for over 900 years. Suddenly however, the peace of the community is shattered when two teenage boys are stricken with a mystery illness. The newly arrived village doctor suspects ‘flu to be the cause of their malady. Her initial diagnosis is terribly and tragically wrong!

Before long, Doctor Hilary Newton and the residents of Olney are plunged into a nightmare of Biblical proportions as the death toll rises and no cure can be found for the disease that ravages the local population, despite the doctors employing the latest antibiotics available to them. Somehow, this plague is different! Help arrives in the form of a medical team from the outside, but the bodies continue to pile up. Someone, somewhere, perhaps within the community itself, knows the reason behind the pestilence that has struck at the heart of the village, but will the medics learn the truth before it’s too late, or will they too join the growing list of names that appear on the roll of death roll in Olney St. Mary?

When a mysterious explosion wreaks havoc in the children’s playground, followed by a second lethal blast in Olney’s makeshift field hospital the sinister and unbelievable truth behind the pestilence begins to slowly reveal itself.

Award-winning author Brian L Porter takes terror to a new dimension as an age old horror returns to nineteen fifties rural England. This time however, the pestilence itself appears to have evolved!

LEGACY OF THE RIPPER, THE SEQUEL TO A STUDY IN RED

Following on from the success of ‘A Study in Red – The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper’, WS 1888 member Brian L Porter’s sequel to the original, ‘Legacy of the Ripper’ has now been released by Double Dragon Publishing, (Ontario) and is currently available in paperback and e-book editions.
Production of the movie version of ‘A Study in Red’ is making progress and Brian is delighted to announce that he has also signed with Thunderball Films for movie production of ‘Legacy of the Ripper’

About the book:

Jack Thomas Reid, nephew of Robert Cavendish who first appeared in A Study in Red – The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper languishes in the secure Ravenswood Psychiatric Hospital, sentenced to confinement ‘at Her Majesty’s Pleasure’ for a series of apparent ‘Jack the Ripper’ copycat killings in the picturesque English coastal resort of Brighton. Jack’s defence at his trial, that he is a descendant of Jack the Ripper and that the crimes were conducted by an unknown ‘mystery man’ and that Jack was drugged and made to appear as the killer was regarded as so preposterous and unbelievable that his sentence was never in doubt. When one of the policemen who conducted the original investigation into the murders begins to doubt the truth of the case against Reid, Sergeant Carl Wright and Ripperologist Alice Nickels begin an investigation into his story. What they find is told through the voice of Doctor Ruth Truman, Jack’s psychiatrist at Ravenswood, and through a series of events that take place as far afield as the beautiful island of Malta and in Warsaw, Poland. Slowly but surely and with the help of Wright’s boss Inspector Mike Holland, the link between the events that shocked and terrorized Whitechapel over a century ago, and their link with the case of Jack Thomas Reid and the ‘Legacy of Jack the Ripper’ is revealed.

The book is currently available from Amazon.com at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1554046904 ISBN 1554046904 and will soon be available from Amazon UK as well as from other retailers.
The e-book version can be obtained from http://www.double-dragon-ebooks.com/single.php?ISBN=1-55404-689-0 ISBN 1554046890

I'm the award-winning author of the novel 'A Study in Red - The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper' winner of The Preditors & Editors Best Thriller Novel of 2008 Award. The book, a dark psychological thriller was also voted the winner of The Authors Lounge Best Cover Illustration Award for May 2008, and is soon to be made into a motion picture by Thunderball Films LLC of Los Angeles. The following trailer has been released by Thunderball Films as a taster of what's to come.
The Book Blurb: A Study in Red - The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper by Brian L Porter tells the story of Robert Cavendish, a modern day psychiatrist who is bequeathed a strange set of papers which purport to be the journal of the long-dead infamous Whitechapel Murderer whose crimes gripped the hearts and minds and instilled terror on the streets of Victorian London. As he begins to read the journal, Robert becomes convinced of it’s authenticity and finds that the words of the Ripper have a strange and compelling effect on him. Unable to cast the pages aside he finds himself being drawn into the dark and sinister world of the killer until he is unable to distinguish what is fact and what is fantasy. In short, Robert Cavendish begins to feel as though he is being taken over in some way by the soul of the long-dead Ripper. What happens as he progresses through the journal will disturb and shock the reader as the close dividing line between sanity and madness is explored to the full. One of the many reviews received so far. 'A Study In Red' Is A BLOCKBUSTER Of A Novel, April 26, 2008 By Barbara Watkins "Barbara Watkins" (Missouri) - See all my reviews Not since reading `Mister B Gone' by Clive Barker had I felt such an enthusiasm of excitement with each turn of the page. `A Study in Red' (The Secret Journal of Jack The Ripper) by Brian Porter ranks high at the top of the charts as a phenomenal work of horror and intrigue. Although set as fiction his depiction of the Ripper murders reads all too real. The author transports his reader back in time to 18th century London. Through his articulate choice of words, you will feel the cobblestone beneath your feet, see the deprivation, and smell the stench that engulfed the streets of Whitechapel at that time. Not unlike the main character of Brian's novel, the journal will possess your complete attention, and evoke thoughts of terror as you anticipate the final climax. In his novel, the author acknowledges many sources from which he meticulously researched much of his material, further adding great realism to his work. In Brian Porter's footnotes, he declares `A study in Red' is a tale, nothing more than fiction, rather than an attempt to throw new light on an old subject. As an avid fan of this new and upcoming author, I can attest he does just that! Brian Porter not only throws a new light on an old subject, he illuminates it! A Study in Red is available in paperback, e-book, and audio versions and can be viewed at Amazon.com by clicking on the cover image above, or by visiting the book's website at www.freewebs.com/astudyinred or by visiting the website of the publisher, Double Dragon Publishing Other paperbacks Also available in paperback right now are my novelette, 'Dracula Doesn't Live Here Anymore' and my award-nominated short story trilogy 'Murder, Mayhem and Mexico', both from Eternal Press and available from Amazon.com Clicking on either of the cover designs below will take you to the book's pages at Amazon. Hey Brian,

Thanks for the comment. We're in the process of selling our house. We're having a new one built and we'll have to move to a rental in between--so everything is chaos here.

But I'll be back posting here when I can.

Right now it's a lot to keep up with my site, blog and Twitter. :-)

Hmm..not certain Vampires are quite a mystery..a thriller indeed. It is entitled Killer Queen Vol. 1 as it is my intention to write a series with the characters involved.
Was not sure if Mythica dealt with that type of novel..I did get an email a while back saying the manuscript had been received.

Take care...

Hi Brian...I am well thank you. Just finished a new manuscript..lots of editing to do so we'll see what happens. Still no luck with anagent or publicist so going it alone. Trying to decide if I want to self publish or try and find a decent publisher for the next book. It's frustrating but I am forging ahead the best I can. Sounds like things are going very well for you. Exciting times!!!
