Profile Information

Hometown:
Prevost
Relationship Status:
Married
About Me:
I am a published author and performance poet who offers in my writing, performances, and lectures, a unique and holistic perspective on what I referrers to as “the divine dichotomy of life”.
I believes that we are all creative creatures called to create in different ways, but that accepting the challenge to embrace creativity is risky; "...for, it's about standing at edge of the abyss -- facing the unknown, and risking success or failure...."

I was born on the beautiful Caribbean Island of Grenada. I began my career as an elementary school teacher at the age of eighteen, before immigrating to Montreal Canada, 1980, to further My education.
In Montreal I attended Art's Institute of cosmetology (1980-1982), and Concordia University (1992-1994), to obtain a BA in Political Science; specializing in women affairs.
During this time, as well as being a wife and the mother of three daughters, I served as an avid political and culturally conscious community worker, and a board member in West Island Black Community Association, (coordinating its Youth group, 1994-1996). I was also vice-President of Montreal Congress of Black women (1994-1995), a member of Montreal Association of Black Business Professionals (1995-1996), and I am an active organizer/performer at cultural and social events. My spiritual mission is to assist in the empowerment of men and women everywhere.
My favorite authors are Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, Alice Walker, Margaret Atwood

Excerpt From my book "THE BOOK OF JOY"

Author's Note:
------------------------

Since the onslaught of the Iron Age, many religious and historic references have suggested that an “active white-male-Principle of a God in Heaven” was solely responsible for the act of creation. To me, this prospective was at least incomplete, and at worst, distorted. Because I was born from a mother, it was not very difficult to envision the prime creative principle in female form. From this prospective, I could not doubt the existence of women as equal… Continue

HAPPY THANHSGIVING (CANADA)

Why do we need to give thanks... (This is a gift from an unknown author, permit me to share it with U... )

I AM THANKFUL: FOR THE WIFE
WHO SAYS IT'S HOT DOGS TONIGHT,
BECAUSE SHE IS HOME WITH ME,
AND NOT OUT WITH SOMEONE ELSE.

FOR THE HUSBAND
WHO IS ON THE SOFA
BEING A COUCH POTATO
BECAUSE HE IS HOME WITH ME
AND NOT OUT AT THE BARS.

FOR THE TEENAGER
WHO IS COMPLAINING ABOUT DOING DISHES
BECAUSE IT MEANS SHE IS AT HOME,
NOT ON THE STREETS.

FOR THE TAXES I PAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I AM EMPLOYED.… Continue

Bernadette Charles (Kulanga)

By way of Introduction

I am Kulanga,
I am what I am.
I invoke my Shhhhh story,
That’s what I do.
I give it life, I give it sound,
I am a stream through which it flows.
I am a river through which it runs.
I am a voice through which it sounds.

My heart beat is an African drum.
My feel is a vibrational sound.
Eternal conscience, is what I am.
A captive audience, that’s what I need.,
To be full flavored
Like an eternal hummmm...

Shhhhh listen!
Can you hear it?
An African spirit has awakened the drums.

Creativity is my… Continue
