About Me:

Born in 1935 in Velim, Goa, India, Ben Antao has been a journalist, teacher, writer and a certified financial planner now living in Toronto, Canada.
After graduating from the University of Bombay (M.A. in English) he worked as a reporter for The Navhind Times, Panjim, Goa (1963-64) and later joined The Indian Express (1965-66) in Bombay as a reporter. In 1966, he won a journalism fellowship awarded by the World Press Institute based at the Macalester College, St. Paul, Minn., for a year’s study and travel in the United States.
On immigrating to Canada in 1967, he worked for The Catholic Register weekly and The Globe and Mail, both of Toronto.
In 1976, he graduated from the University of Toronto (B.Ed) and switched to a teaching career, retiring from high school teaching in 1998.
In 1990, he published Images of Goa, a memoir of his early life and experiences in his native land. He is currently writing fiction and non-fiction, in addition to his financial planning practice.
In 2004 he published Goa A Rediscovery, a travelogue.
He has written five novels, several short stories, a play as well as a movie script based on his novel The Tailor’s Daughter. One of his novels, Blood and Nemesis, was published in Goa in June, 2005. Another novel Penance was published in 2006, The Tailor’s Daughter in 2007, and his latest novel Living on the Market in 2008. Also published in 2008 is The lands of Sicily (Le terre di Sicilia), a travelogue of his visit to Sicily in October 2008.
He’s the past president of the Canadian Authors Association, Toronto branch.
